A little about us and the cottage
Set in the very heart of the Peak District, Angler’s Cottage is truly a luxury B&B, occupying a charming period cottage built in the 1700s and renovated in 2015 to an impeccable standard. Boasting beautiful well tended river gardens home to wildlife and idyllic views, our position in the valley is as perfect as can be, with very easy road access and a short footpath straight up to the Monsal Trail. The place is run by a very creative couple, Nicky, a fashion designer and Bernard, a botanical artist, so you can expect the decor to be traditional but beautifully thought out and perfectly ordered. Nicky has experience managing staff at the prestigious Endsleigh House in Devon, and Bernard is Derbyshire born and bred so has very extensive local knowledge. Between them they will provide you with the utmost level of hospitality and assistance exploring the local area. Look out for botanical art and sewing courses in the near future.
Nicky is also a Cordon Bleu chef and a specialist in gluten free cuisine, so she is confident you will be more than happy with your breakfast. Whether you choose traditional English or continental, and even if you have a food allergy or intolerance, all ingredients are locally sourced and of the highest quality. We do not offer lunch or dinner but gastronomic delights to suit any budget are within easy reach – from the infamous Bakewell puddings and legendary pies to some very high end fine dining experiences.
Things to do in the area
We are ideally positioned for those who wish to explore the magnificent countryside of the Peak District – stunning countryside vistas and picture postcard villages are within easy reach, and easy to find.
Outdoor pursuits, including hiking, rock climbing, cycling, kayaking, horse riding and paragliding are all close at hand, and if you prefer a more relaxing day you can take a very easy and pleasant stroll down our lane to Litten Mill, stopping at the multi award winning real ale pub, The Angler’s Rest, next door to us. If you’re feeling just slightly more adventurous you can walk the other way along the river and quickly find yourself in meandering gorges that can feel quite other-worldly at times. A short drive north brings you through picturesque Tideswell and out into the stunning Hope valley, home to Blue John, Peak and Speedwell Caverns, Mam Tor, and a variety of attractions in Castleton. Ten minutes east along the A6 you’ll find the delightfully quaint Ashford in the Water and just on from there the vibrant village of Bakewell. Go the other way and you’ll be in Buxton in no time, home to the beautiful Pavilion Gardens, Buxton Opera House, Poole’s Cavern & Country Park and Go Ape. We’re also perfectly positioned as a base to visit various National Trust and English Heritage sites including Chatsworth House, Peveril Castle, Lyme Park and the Longshaw Estate.
